In honor of America day today, I figured I should show my favorite do's and don't's of the red, white, and blue day.
DO:
Decorate the house with bits and pieces of the red, white, and blue today. But don't go over board. Use the color and symbol in moderation to avoid tackiness.
Go to the fireworks. Whether you are 5, 18, 37, or 76 you are never too old to watch the fireworks on the 4th of July. It is a tradition that no one can ever become "too cool" for. So suck up your pride and go to the fireworks. The show is totes worth it.
If having a party or grilling out HAVE FUN! Use your food or table decorations as a way to incorporate the American flag or even just the colors. Take this clever way to create a fancy flag design using basic round cake pops for example. DELICIOUS!
Finally, have fun with your wardrobe on the 4th of July. Don't go over board, but be daring and rock the American flag. Only do this when the rest of the ensemble is neutral and basic toned so the flag steals the spotlight. Come on now, it is the 4th of July so we have to show our patriotism somehow!
DON'T'S:
Don't buy specialty items like shoes for this one day. Yes, a shirt is okay because it won't look ridiculous on other days of the years, but heels? Those would end up sitting in your closet for 365 days until the next 4th of July rolls around. Not worth the money one bit.
Special makeup? That's a NO NO. Keep the makeup nice and classy and allow your outfit to take front stage. I believe the makeup should never out show the outfit especially with crazy colors. A neutral palette for the face is best.
Last but not least...don't think you are too cool for the 4th of July by wearing Canada or some other country's flag on this glorious day. If you live in America appreciate the 4th of July.
